SaluTemp is a company striving to increase patient safety by ensuring medications are stored in the correct conditions. Through their hardware piece and mobile application, users are able to keep track of their medication conditions at all times to ensure their medicine is safe. As a Software Designer on the team I worked with three other designers to design a mobile application and brand identity for Salutemp.
We took a look at others in the industry to get an idea of how similar mobile applications work and how they branded themselves. After researching, we found that there weren't many competitors that completely matched SaluTemp's features and there seemed to be an open spot in the market.
Defined by simplicity, empathy, dependability, and quality, SaluTemp’s brand strives to relay that. Through our brand colors, logo, and patterns, SaluTemp’s brand seamlessly fits into the healthcare space while making it’s user feel comfortable and secure.
The client provided us with a mock prototype that we based our sitemap off of. We started with four main flows, however as we started we saw areas to combine or remove flows due to the timing of the project and logic as we worked through screens.
The main features I worked on were medication reminders and notifications. Reminders allow users to set, edit, and delete reminders to take their medications. Notifications send out urgent storage condition updates if a medication isn't in an ideal state.
After I understood more about these two flows, I began to try out different ways to display the information. The goal was to make these screens as clear and straightforward as possible while also allowing users to get a high level glance at their medication conditions.
After finishing our first round of hi-fis we participated in an in-person user testing and feedback session to get other perspectives before moving forward.
Increased touchpoint size, added arrow for clickability, and added a status indicator for medications
Increased touchpoint size and changed the text color for completed reminders
Added a background to the time picker to make it stand out from the background
Once making edits from user testing, we began hi-fis of the app. The reminders page became somewhere I was able to use more brand colors and develop icons for medications. During the hi-fi stage we were able to develop more standards across the app like margins, buttons, and more.
Ask questions! Especially when not in direct contact with the client, ask questions to the leads so they can follow up with the client. Having clarity makes the process much easier and ensures you're designing with the correct goals in mind.
When designing for mobile, make sure to put mobile first. During the process, we constantly checked our designs on our devices to get a better perspective. Designing for and on computers is completely different than mobile so it was important to be aware of our platform.
